RIZAL MONUMENT IN PLAZA DIVISORIA, CAGAYAN DE ORO

1. How is this monument different from other monuments of a neighboring town?
  • Even though there are also Rizal Monuments located in Cagayan De Oro but this one in Plaza Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro is different from other monuments of neighboring town because Rizal doesn’t hold anything unlike the other monuments who were holding things like book and he is just standing there while doing gesture. Overall, the Rizal Monument in Plaza Divisoria is similar to the Rizal Monument in other neighboring town whom we reflect as our national hero.

2. What is the relationship of these monuments to the surrounding space and other structures within that space? Do they dominate the space? Or are they overshadowed just like in Luneta?
  • For me the monument is overshadowed because if you will visit the place where it is located there are a lot of buildings was built and constructed around the area and it is higher or bigger than the Rizal monument built in Plaza Divisoria..

3. How is the subject depicted? What is he wearing? How is he posed or how is he standing? What is the subject's facial expression?
  • Rizal is dressed or wearing his usual traditional clothes. He is just standing straight while doing gesture.

4. In which direction are our eyes led to as we look at the monument?
  • The Rizal Monument is showing some look that can make a person stare at his monument. And if we will visit to look the Rizal Monument, we will just focus on looking or staring and observing the Rizal Monument because there are distractions that can avoid you to observe the monument because there a lot of buildings and there are many cars are passing by.But What's so important about this monument is that its marble marker having an inscription of a Spanish language is the only surviving artifact with Spanish texts during the ravages of time most importantly the world war II. The inscription in Spanish says:

"RIZAL! para perpetuar to memoria. Te dedicamos este recuerdo, humilde si, pero con ello van nuestros mas caros afectos brotados desde el fondo de muestras almas y, a todo kagayn que te venera sirvale de guia para seguir te ejemplo."
